Feather is a texture yarn, not a structure yarn — it earns its place in fringing, tassels, shaggy woven rows and small plush pieces, and it’s brilliant held alongside a smooth yarn to add a halo.

What Is Feather Yarn?

What is feather yarn?

A fine core strand with soft fibres attached along its length, so the finished fabric looks like fur rather than like stitches. You may have seen it called eyelash or fun-fur yarn.

What’s it like to work with?

Light, airy, and a bit unruly in the best way. The trick with feather yarn is that you work it by feel more than by sight — the fluff hides the stitch structure almost completely.

What can I make with it?

Texture, not structure. Fringing and tassels, the shaggy sections of a woven hanging, trims and edges, and small plush pieces where “fluffy” is the entire point. It’s also brilliant held together with a smooth yarn to add a halo without losing your stitch definition.

Washing & Care

Hand wash cold, and wash dark colours on their own.

Dry flat, never in a tumble dryer. Lay it on a towel and reshape it while it’s damp.

Don’t iron it. These are synthetic yarns — a hot iron will flatten the pile permanently and can glaze the fibre. If something needs relaxing, steam it from a distance with the iron never touching the surface.

They don’t block like wool. Wet-blocking works because wool holds a shape. Synthetics don’t have that memory, so what comes off your hook is essentially what you’ve got. Worth knowing before you plan something that depends on precise finished dimensions.

On pilling: any soft synthetic pile will pill where it rubs. On a cushion or a throw that’s normal wear, and a fabric shaver takes it straight off.
