How to use this guide

Depending on your Crochet Experience

💗 Crochet Newbie: If you're new to this craft, we recommend you go through this guide from top to bottom. Start off with our two practice videos: Foundational Stitches and Amigurumi Techniques. These two videos will teach you everything you need to know about the basics, ensuring that you have a great time when you start working on your crochet kit.

💗 Comfy Crocheter: If you've crocheted before and you're comfortable with the most common stitches (ch, sc, hdc, dc, magic rings) then you're probably ready to dive straight into the project. You can skip the intro videos and go straight to the meat of the guide.

💗 Crochet Pro: If you're an absolute pro and then you probably don't need our guide at all! If you want to save time, you can download the PDF pattern below and get straight into your project.

How to Crochet

If you're a crochet newbie, it's worth watching these two videos to learn the basics of crochet.

Sunflower Bouquet: Step-By-Step Crochet Guide

Below you'll find each of the steps to making a single Sunflower crochet piece. If you have a bouquet kit, you will simply repeat these steps to create your full bouquet! We recommend downloading the PDF pattern so that you can read it alongside watching the video guides.

Step-By-Step Video Guide

Sometimes learning visually is easier than reading instructions, so if you're new to crochet then we recommend you watch our full video guide on making your Sunflower.

Our full guide is pretty long since it takes you through every detail of your crochet kit. So please use the timestamps listed in the video description if you need to jump ahead to a specific section.

Its a hefty video so its taking us longer than expected to upload! We appreciate your patience while our little team works on it.

1. Brown Sunflower Middle

The first step in creating your sunflower is to make the brown circle that will become the centre of your flower. You'll be stitching in the round, which is a very common amigurumi technique.

2. Green Sunflower Back

Next you'll be using the exact same pattern to create the back of your sunflower, this time using your green yarn.

3. Yellow Petals

Now its time to really bring your sunflower together! You're going to be stitching the petals of your flower

As you create your yellow petals, you'll be stitching front and back pieces together. When your sunflower is almost closed, you'll begin stuffing the middle section with your polyfill to give it body.

4. Green Leaf

Your last element to stitch is your leaf! This is stitched onto a wire, which will allow you to move your leaf around and position it how you would like. This can take a getting used to if you're new to crochet, as it can feel a bit fiddly to hold. Its best to stitch slowly and steadily when crocheting onto wire.

You'll also notice that we've split the pattern for Round 1 into three sections:

  1. The first half of the leaf
  2. The tip of the leaf
  3. The second half of the leaf

We've done this because its an easier way for a crochet newbie to visualise the shape of the leaf. If the pattern is all listed in one round, it can also look overwhelming for someone learning.

If you're really not enjoying the wire, you can simply stitch your leaf without it! You can then hot glue the wire to the back later.

5. Assemble your Sunflower

Now that all your elements are ready, its time to assemble!

  1. Start by bending your wire stem at the top and pushing it into the back of your sunflower. Secure the stem with hot glue.
  2. Attach your leaf by winding the smaller wire around your stem. You can adjust the height and angle of your leaf.
  3. When you're happy with the leaf, its time to add the green yarn around the stem. Secure your yarn at the top of your stem with a dab of hot glue. Then twist your yarn all the way around the stem to cover it, go around and around until there is no wire left showing. Sometimes it can be easier to hold the yarn still and twist the sunflower around as it covers the stem quicker.
  4. And you're sunflower is done!
  5. Optional: If you want to make the back of your sunflower as neat as possible, you can cover the visible glue with a little crochet rectangle, you'll find the pattern for this listed in your PDF pattern. You will attach this rectangle using hot glue in the middle, and weaving the corners down.

Wrapping Your Bouquet (Optional)

If you're planning on giving your bouquet (or part of your bouquet) as a gift, then wrapping them can be a lovely way to display your present! We've curated a few videos and shorts that show a range of techniques for wrapping a bouquet. These techniques work whether your flowers are real or crochet!

'5 Ways to Wrap a Bouquet' Short by Floral Supplies

This video by Floral Supplies is great for getting a quick idea of the options when it comes to wrapping a bouquet. Your Bunny can be wrapped in the exact same ways, although you might want to bend your wires back to make them shorter for some bouquet styles.

'How to Wrap a Single Sunflower' Short by @cherricrochet161

This is a beautifully simple method for wrapping a bouquet! I love this video because it clearly shows the steps for wrapping more complicated bouquets but in a way that is easy to visualise. Use this method if you would like to make a smaller bouquet and keep some of the sunflowers for yourself (we won't blame you!)
