Deluxe Floral Sampler Guide
Getting Started ✨
Welcome to the tutorial guide for our Deluxe Floral Sampler
This kit is going to help you dive into your journey with creative embroidery. Whether you're a stitching newbie or a crafty pro looking to test your skills - this deluxe sampler is sure to delight you.
We have specially designed this kit to help develop your stitching skills, through three different and unique sampler pieces. By starting with basic stitches and progressing to more detailed techniques, each design has been thoughtfully crafted to be both educational and display-worthy.
Your Kit Contains Three Designs:
- Classic Stitch Sampler - Master 9x essential embroidery stitches, perfect to get you started.
- Wildflower Sampler - Create 6x beautiful botanical designs using 8x stitches that you learned in the your first sampler.
- Floral Sampler - Blending some of your classic stitches with some more unique techniques, your final design includes 14x different stitches to create a show-stopping floral piece.
Before You Begin:
Before starting your first piece, use the written instructions inside your guide to get your hoop and thread set up.
- Setting up your hoop - partially unscrew your hoop to separate the inner and outer ring, placing your fabric on top of the inner hoop you can then secure your fabric tightly!
- Threading your needle - you'll be using 3x strands of thread for your first stitches, so check your colour is correct and thread up! Use your needle threader to make the process easier.
- Understanding your pattern - take a moment to compare your first design to the picture in your printed guide! This will help you get your bearings and get ready to get crafty.
Design One: Classic Stitch Sampler
Classic Stitch Sampler Walkthrough!
If you're already familiar with your basic stitches you can watch this walkthrough to get a taste of everything you'll be working on. Its not a tutorial but instead a relaxing and peaceful overview of each stitch.
Section #1: Back Stitch & Whipped Back Stitch
Let's dive into embroidery with this classic and well-loved stitch! Back Stitch is commonly used for line work and is a great foundational stitch to have in your tool kit. This tutorial not only shows you how to Back Stitch, but also how to dress it up with my personal favourite embroidery stitch - Whipped Back Stitch! It sounds fancy but soon you'll realise what an easy but impactful stitch it is.
Section #2: Running Stitch
You're off to a running start! Pardon the pun. Next its time to learn your running stitch and you won't believe how easy this one is.
Section #3: Straight Stitch
Now for the simplest stitch of them all - straight stitch! In this video I'll show you how to create floral starbursts out of the easy straight stitch.
Section #4: Stem Stitch
Now for adding a bit of texture to your line work. Unsurprisingly stem stitch is a fabulous stitch to use for stems when creating floral pieces! But it can also be used for any kind of line work to add some extra interest and dimention.
Section #5: Chain Stitch
Chain stitch is a beautiful stitch that looks much more impressive than it actually is to stitch - which is always a plus for me! Watch our below tutorial to see how easy they are to create.
Section #6: Lazy Daisy Stitch
Lazy Daisies are a beautiful foundation stitch that is so versatile! It uses very similar techniques to your chain stitch meaning that you'll find the below video a breeze. Whilst a classic five-petal daisy is the most common use for the stitch, you can get creative using these stitches to make a range of floral shapes.
Section #7: French Knots
French knots sometimes get a bad wrap for being really hard - but I promise if you follow the steps in this video you are guaranteed to nail them! The trick is all about keeping the tension in your non-dominant hand and working carefully with each stitch.
Section #8: Satin Stitch
Satin Stitch is one of the most common filler stitches. You're simply repeating a whole bunch of straight stitches next to each other to fill your shape - its as easy as that! Use our 'guide' method shown below to ensure your stitches look neat every single time.
Design Two: Wildflower Sampler
Now that you've learned nine classic stitch types, its time to put them to use in your Wildflower sampler! This piece is both educational and beautiful, and you can choose whether to keep your ink visible as a reference guide or wash it away to use it as a decor piece.
Wildflower Sampler Walkthrough!
Relax and get creative while we show you each stitch involved in your next sampler - our Wildflower Sampler. Because you've covered all of these stitches in our previous tutorials, this video is a walkthrough guide and not a tutorial for each stitch. If you've forgotten any stitches - not to worry! Simply scroll back up to the tutorials above to remind yourself.
We've also added three extra techniques and tutorials that will level up your Wildflower Sampler: Woven Wheel Roses, Satin Stitch Petals & Leaf Stitch (which is a type of satin stitch) - check out these additional videos below!
Woven Wheel Roses
Woven Wheel Roses are a really impressive embroidery stitch that is way easier to stitch than it looks! When finished it creates a beautiful 3D rose that makes a huge impact on any piece.
Below we've shown you two ways to create a Woven Wheel Rose - a classic rose and a filled rose. They're very similar except that in your filled rose you'll be leaving a space in the middle to create a 'flower centre' - we've used French Knots here but you can use any filler stitch to cover that middle space!
Satin Stitch Petals
In your Wildflower Sampler we're going to be levelling up your Satin Stitch technique - but don't worry! This tutorial below will show you the best way to stitch irregular shapes with Satin Stitch and ensure they still look beautiful and neat.
Leaf Stitch
Leaf Stitch is a super common way to fill in any leaf shape - and its actually a variation of Satin Stitch! You're simply stitching two halves of your leaf in Satin Stitch with each side pointing inwards towards the midline of your leaf. Watch the video below to see how simple it really is!
Design Three: Floral Sampler
You're ready to take on your final piece! In this video I'll be teaching you exactly how to fill this piece in step-by-step. We've broken the video into chapters so if you're already familiar with any of these stitches, you can skip ahead.
We'll also be teaching you these new unique stitches that you may not have tried before:
- Coral Stitch
- Basket Weave
- Fern Stitch
- Split Stitch
- Leaf Stitch
- Long & Short Stitch
- Fishbone Stitch
Floral Sampler Step-By-Step Guide!
You're Finished!
Congratulations on finishing all three of your stitch samplers! You deserve a huge round of applause.
You can choose to keep your stitch samplers as reference pieces or wash away the ink to use them as decor pieces. Keeping them with the ink will be useful if you're planning on stitching your own designs in the future, and want a reminder of how each stitch looks. However if you'd rather show off your beautiful work simply wash your ink under luke warm water to wash away those blue lines! We recommend displaying your Wildflower Sample in the hoop because of its curving shapes, and framing your final Floral Sampler in a rectangle frame.
Thank you!
I hope you've loved creating your embroidery pieces! All of these tutorials are personally written and filmed by me - Nakisah - the founder of Craft Club.
