Weaving a bag ends with something you carry out the door — to work, to the market, to your sister's birthday dinner where someone inevitably asks where you got it. Here's how the technique actually works and what it takes to go from empty canvas base to finished, wearable bag.
What Weaving Actually Is
Unlike cross stitch or latch hook, which work needle- or hook-first through fabric, weaving builds a surface by passing yarn over and under a fixed structure — in this case, a sturdy plastic canvas bag base. You thread yarn through with a weaving needle, working row by row, building up color and pattern as you go. It's a genuinely different motion from stitching, closer to what a loom does, just scaled down and hand-worked.

How Long It Actually Takes

- Transfer your pattern and mark the canvas.

Tips for a Cleaner Finish
Keep your tension consistent row to row — pull too tight and the base will bow, too loose and the weave looks sloppy.
Follow the colour guide closely rather than eyeballing it; wavy and gingham patterns especially rely on getting the colour sequence right to read properly once finished.
And don't rush the hardware step at the end — a straight, evenly attached strap is what makes a finished bag look store-bought.
Choosing Your Bag
With 17 designs and colourways to choose from, picking one really comes down to pattern and palette. Black Gingham is our most-loved design — a classic checked pattern that goes with everything. Pink & Red Wavey is another favourite if you want something bolder. If you're after something more neutral, Neutrals Wavey or Chocolate Gingham lean into warmer, easier-to-wear tones. Prefer a cleaner geometric look? Rainbow Checker, Black Checker, and Chocolate Pinstripe are newer additions worth a look.
